You are bidding on this Collectible Book and NINE Pie Bird Funnel Vents ~Widecombe Fair Series
by Widecombe Pottery
Widecombe is a small village in Devon, England.
“Widecombe Fair” is a song about a man named Tom Pearce.
He lends his horse to someone wishing to travel to the fair with a list of friends:
"
Bill Brewer, Jan Stewer, Peter Gurney, Peter Davy, Dan'l Whiddon, Harry Hawke, Old Uncle Tom Cobley and all
."
The nine funnels in this set measure 3 ¼” tall and are marked:
Widecombe Pottery.
Dan’l Whiddon has a different marking than the others.
The Widecombe Fair song is on the back of each funnel:
Tom Pearce, Tom Pearce, lend me your grey mare, All along, down along, out along lee.
For I want to go to Widdecombe Fair, Wi’ Bill Brewer, Jan Stewer, Peter Gurney, Peter Davy, Dan’l Whiddon, Harry Hawk, Old Uncle Tom Cobleigh and all, Old Uncle Tom Cobleigh and all.
Also included is an eleven page book titled “Widecombe Vair!”
The book includes the melody, along with the illustrated poem.
Please note the book has a bent corner. All eight characters are represented on their own funnel along with the ninth funnel showing Tom Pearce’s grey mare caring the seven men going to the fair.
Please note that the “Peter Gurney” funnel has two tight hairlines (see photos) and “Peter Davey” has a thin chip on the bottom…I’m not sure if this is a production flaw.
These pie birds are unique and rare.
Highly Collectible!!
